The human eye is a very sensitive and precise organ, and the complicated process of image formation can be shortened to the focusing of light on the retina of the eye. In people with so-called refractive eye defects can not focus in the right place a beam of light rays that focus before or behind the retina. In the case of nearsightedness the beam of light focuses in front of the retina, which allows us to see well at short distances, but looking at distant objects makes us difficult and requires squinting, which supports the accommodation process.

In turn farsightedness people see well what is further away from them, and they have problems with seeing objects close to them, which results from the fact that their eyes focus the light behind the retina.

Yet another problem occurs in people with astigmatism, in whom the light is focused in different places of the retina - this is related to the irregular shape of the cornea. Astigmatism is called otherwise inaccuracy, because people with this eye defect complain about a blurred, blurred image.

Laser Eye Surgery

Laser Eye Surgery allows you to effectively remove nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism and presbyopia. Fortunately, for a long time, people with refractive errors are not condemned to wear glasses or contact lenses - a large part of them can take advantage of laser vision correction surgery. The beginning of the development of Laser Eye Surgery techniques dates back to the 1980s, and this area is systematically developing, offering patients more and more effective and less invasive methods. Currently, techniques such as PRK, LASEK, LASIK and EPI-LASIK, as well as EBK and femtoLASIK are the most frequently used ones. The principle of operation of such procedures in short is to modify the curvature of the corneal surface, thanks to which the possibility of proper focusing of light rays on the retina of the eye is restored. Excimer and femtosecond lasers are used for this purpose.

Laser treatments for refractive errors are usually short, painless and can be performed as part of one day surgery, thanks to which the patient can leave the clinic within a few hours of correction and go home. Such procedures are generally carried out under local anesthesia using eye drops. Laser correction of refraction defects is a very precise procedure: during it the laser light changes the shape of the cornea by a fraction of millimeters, but these small changes enable complete correction of even significant sight defects and regaining the ability to correct visual acuity.

Before the surgery, it is necessary to perform a package of ophthalmologic tests. The first step to carry out the procedure is to perform a wide package of ophthalmologic tests to determine whether a person is eligible for surgery, and to choose the most suitable of the available methods of laser treatment for refractive errors. Qualification tests for laser vision correction include assessment of the anterior and posterior segment of the eye in the slit lamp, tonometry (measurement of intraocular pressure) and topography of the cornea, pachymetry is also performed, i.e. corneal thickness test, and evaluates vision defects. In the case of some treatments (so-called Wavefront procedures), data obtained during qualifying tests are then entered into the computer of the laser device with which the procedure is performed, which allows a very precise, personalized correction of the patient's defect.

Laser Eye Surgery are precise and safeThe procedure of laser refractive defect removal usually lasts no longer than half an hour and is controlled by a computer under the supervision of an experienced operator, thanks to which the treatment is completely safe. Some patients are afraid that during the operation of the laser they will blink, which will reduce the effects of the procedure or even lead to eye damage, however these fears are unjustified: before the operation, the doctor puts a special eye on the eye, which makes it impossible to move it.
Laser Eye Surgery is primarily the ability to free yourself from glasses and lenses permanently and the comfort of sharp vision in every situation, and because the eyesight is one of our most important senses, it is hardly surprising that treatments of this kind are gaining popularity.
